Mermaid Dressing Table

Painted in thick layers of Annie Sloan chalk paint (I always sand items prior to painting to ensure the paint adheres nicely.) The decoration features an antique floral still life and a mermaid taken from a vintage advert and butterflies taken from antique encyclopedias. The decoupage has been made by myself and printed in fade-resistant ink designed to last up to 100 years before any fading occurs. I have then hand-painted over the top to blend all of the components together in very thick, VERY textured layers and dribbles. The paint finish has been HEAVILY distressed, back to wood in some places and to reveal the different shades of green in the undercoat. I have allowed the original varnish to come thrives the paint and I have also tea-stained the finish to further age it. I aim to create the feel of a genuinely aged bohemian piece. The text reads, in the green of the undercoat 'it will be okay'.
Finally varnished with a floor varnish to provide a durable finish.
This is an Antique refurbished piece and though sturdy and sound, It may have life marks, dinks, knocks etc. The drawers slide smoothly. No woodworm. The insides are good and clean, no odour. Original brass handles remain with a beautiful aged patina. The mirror still tilts and has a little foxing and damaging to the silvering but this compliments the distressed feel. The insides of the little drawers are painted bright blue to complement the blue butterflies and the insides of the other drawers are painted in green gloss for a durable finish.
